Logic, reason, and argumentation are the primary tools of philosophy. These tools must be practiced with love and respect for others. Winning an argument requires more than reason. You must have emotional intelligence (empathy) and virtue (character). It is important to ask good questions, define terms, and take the time to understand other positions and the reasons why people hold those positions. This is one way that we love others in the context of dialogue and debate. | |
