| Intro to Philosophy | Introduce the class; Discuss "What is Philosophy?" | Read Unraveling Philosophy—Ch 1; Philosophy is a type of human exploration where the primary tools are logic and reason. It celebrates human freedom and the God-given ability to think. Humans are commanded to love God with all our mind, and Jesus embodies the unity of spirit and truth. Ideas have consequences and studying philosophy helps you avoid being taken captive by bad ideas (Col 2:8) and to advocate for truth (2 Cor 10:5). God designed you and commands you to think. The rewards of truth (such as wisdom and happiness) are worth the pursuit. The four main branches of philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics) constitute a worldview. The Christian worldview understands the triune God of Scripture to be the source of goodness, truth, and beauty. | |
